Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for older children and adults, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions, shading, texture, and colors. All sketching materials are provided, and you are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills, but this is not required.
Central New York becomes a world of grays and browns during late fall and winter, but we can still appreciate the beauty of plants long after their greenery has faded. Join us for a walk around the Fox’s Den and Meadow Trail to find and identify winter weeds, pinecones, branches, and other treasures. We will learn about how these plants provide food and shelter for wildlife. Then, we’ll bring some clippings back to the nature center where we can sketch them and study them further.
More Details: This program will partially take place on the Meadow Trail, which is a relatively flat loop of about a quarter mile. We will also do some exploring in the Fox’s Den nature play area, which is also fairly flat with some exposed roots. This program is designed for adults and older children (10+). Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required.
