Nature Sketching: Birds

Loading Events
Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for older teens and adults, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions, shading, texture, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or back in the program room. During winter or inclement weather, sketching will take place in the Interpretive Center.
All sketching materials are provided, including pencils, colored pencils, pens, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills, but this is not required. In this session, we will sketch birds visiting our feeders through the window. We will also use taxidermy mounts and photos as references to learn about bird anatomy, feather groups, and tips for drawing birds in motion. Before sketching, we will go for a brief walk with binoculars for inspiration.
More Details: This program is designed for ages 15 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. Teens under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We will walk on relatively flat trails near the building.
