Nature Art for Kids: Mammals

Loading Events
Nature art is a great way to discover and learn about cool plants, animals, other living things, and landscapes! In this series for kids, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions, shading, texture, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or inside the Interpretive Center. During winter or inclement weather, sketching will take place inside.

All sketching materials are provided, including pencils, colored pencils, pens, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills, but this is not required.

In this session, we will sketch mammals including squirrels visiting our feeders through the window. We will also use taxidermy mounts and photos as references to learn about mammal anatomy, fur texture, and tips for drawing mammals in motion. Before sketching, we will go for a brief walk for inspiration. We will walk on relatively flat trails near the building.

More Details: This program is designed for children ages 5-13. Registration is per-child. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. We will walk on relatively flat trails near the building.
