Work days can be somewhat strenuous at times. Heavy rain will postpone the work day. \nThese volunteer projects are for ages 14 and up. Participants 14-18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should plan to meet the Land Steward in the main parking lot at the start of the work day.

Forest Therapy\, also known as “forest bathing\,” stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nRegistration for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, December 10. \nClick to register for the December Forest Therapy Walk!\nMore details: This walk is designed for adults. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. You will be notified ahead of the program on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place rain or shine. Join us as we waddle the trails to see the true benefits of this family-friendly way to beat cabin fever. Towards the end of our hike we will enjoy some hot chocolate out in the forest!\n\nClick to register for Family Field Days: Let’s Go Snowshoeing!\n\n\nMore Details: Pricing is per family; there must be at least one adult per family. Family size includes up to 4 children (ages 5+). This program is free for member families. Snowshoes will be provided to participants. This program is planned to follow the Harrison Trail. This difficult trail has narrow and steep sections with roots and loose soil. The surfaces may be snow-covered or icy this time of year. Resting benches are available. Our total route will be about 0.5 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Watching the birds is a relaxing way to stay connected to nature in the winter. We will be looking for\, identifying\, and counting the birds that visit our feeders from the warmth of our indoor program room as part of the Lab of Ornithology’s Project: Feederwatch citizen science initiative. Join a naturalist and other bird-lovers for a casual afternoon of learning and connecting! Binoculars and field guides will be provided. \nThis program will occur every Wednesday from January 14 – April 8. Pre-registration is not required.  \nMore Details: This program will be held inside the program room in the Interpretive Center. There are accessible and van accessible parking spaces with a short paved path from the parking lot to the building. There are no stairs to enter the building\, program space\, or accessible bathrooms. Seating will be provided. This program is designed for adults.

SUMMARY:Junior Nature Sketching: Forest Curiosities (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for kids\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or back in the program room. During winter or inclement weather\, sketching will take place in the Interpretive Center. All sketching materials are provided\, including pencils\, colored pencils\, pens\, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required. In our first session\, we will collect natural curiosities like pinecones\, sticks\, and winter weeds and bring them back to sketch in the Interpretive Center. \nRegistration for Junior Nature Sketching: Forest Curiosities is now closed. \nMore Details: This program is designed for children ages 5-13.
