Moderate trails are made of packed crushed stone\, difficult trails have packed stone or dirt surfaces with steepness and roots. Our September meeting will take place on November 1 from 10:30 AM to Noon when we will be discussing Is a River Alive? by Robert Macfarlane. \nRegistration for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, October 29. \nDiscussion leader Todd Stregiel is thrilled to have an opportunity to join with others in the community by bringing together two of his abiding passions— reading good books and appreciating nature’s wonders. As we tour the most active parts of Montezuma to watch geese\, ducks\, shorebirds\, and more\, we’ll discover the stories of how they can travel so far. Our total route will be about 0.5 miles.

DESCRIPTION:Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for kids\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or back in the program room. During winter or inclement weather\, sketching will take place in the Interpretive Center. All sketching materials are provided\, including pencils\, colored pencils\, pens\, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required. In our first session\, we will collect natural curiosities like pinecones\, sticks\, and winter weeds and bring them back to sketch in the Interpretive Center. \nRegistration for Junior Nature Sketching: Forest Curiosities is now closed. \nMore Details: This program is designed for children ages 5-13.
