DESCRIPTION:Registration for this program is closed.\nExperience nature in a unique way on a guided Forest Therapy Walk throughout Baltimore Woods! Forest Therapy\, also known as “forest bathing\,” stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. The 2.5 hour walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. \nMore details: This walk is designed for ages 14 and up. Space is limited. Using special lights and white sheets\, we’ll attract a variety of insects to get a close-up view of their patterns\, colors\, and adaptations. A short walk through the woods will reveal even more wonders. Our August meeting will take place on August 3 from 10:30 AM to Noon when we will be discussing A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. Copies will be made available on reserve at the Marcellus Free Library.\n\nDiscussion leader Todd Stregiel is thrilled to have an opportunity to join with others in the community by bringing together two of his abiding passions— reading good books and appreciating nature’s wonders. He is a Skaneateles native with a dedication to lifelong learning having made a career as a teacher in  alternative and adult education settings. SUMMARY:October Stewardship Work Night (Wednesday): Trail Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:At our Wednesday Stewardship Work Night in October\, we will be focusing on trail maintenance involving brushing and trailside pruning and blazing. By the end of a growing season\, trees and shrubs have moved into the trail and can make trails more difficult to follow and less interesting to walk on. This evening\, we will be walking a trail to clean up the trail for winter and make sure it is easy to follow by cutting back vegetation and checking trail blazes. We will discuss how far we should be clearing\, what cuts to make\, and what tools can be used to do it. \nClick to sign up and volunteer on this Wednesday work day!\nMore details: Participants should wear long pants\, close-toed shoes\, work gloves\, bring an appropriate amount of water\, and be prepared to work. Work days can be somewhat strenuous at times. Heavy rain will postpone the work day. These volunteer projects are for ages 14 and up. Participants 14-18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should plan to meet the Land Steward in the main parking lot at the start of the work day.

SUMMARY:October Stewardship Work Day (Saturday): Trail Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:At our Saturday Stewardship Work Day in October\, we will be focusing on trail maintenance involving waterbar and rolling dip cleanout. Water management is the most important part of keeping trails stable and usable. Part of controlling water is installing water diversion structures like water bars and rolling dips. These structures require periodic maintenance of removing silt and organics that have built up over the summer and fall. Today we will be maintaining these important structures to make sure trails are in good condition going into winter. \nClick to sign up and volunteer on this Saturday work day!\nMore details: Participants should wear long pants\, close-toed shoes\, work gloves\, bring an appropriate amount of water\, and be prepared to work. Work days can be somewhat strenuous at times. Heavy rain will postpone the work day. These volunteer projects are for ages 14 and up. Participants 14-18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should plan to meet the Land Steward in the main parking lot at the start of the work day.

Forest Therapy\, also known as “forest bathing\,” stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. While the pumpkins are roasting\, we’ll learn about the history of Marcellus and Baltimore Woods\, ponder how life was different back then\, and how we can still see evidence of their lifestyles on the landscape today. SUMMARY:Celebrate the Four Seasons with Music of Nature & Wonder
DESCRIPTION:Through time\, the sounds of nature have inspired wonderful musical\, poetic\, and artistic dreams all around the world: from rushing waterfalls\, to gentle drops of rain and melting icicles….to birdsong and crickets…and so much more. \n\n\n\nDrawing upon the diverse sounds of nature throughout the four seasons\, Bells & Motley are excited to bring audiences on a musical journey using a gamut of historical instruments for a good measure of surprise: A beautiful introduction to the evocative connection between music and nature. \n\n\n\nThis concert will feature historic instruments and music to highlight a collection of meaningful traditions from different cultures. Our Baltimore Woods Nature Center setting\, surrounded by forest\, will bring us to especially focus on the connection of music and wonder. Music will be played from 2-3pm and musicians will be available to answer questions and learn more about the instruments. \n\n\nMore details: This program is for all ages and is made possible through the CNY Arts Grants for Regional Arts and Cultural Engagement regrant program thanks to a New York State Senate Initiative supported by the NYS Legislature\, the Office of the Governor and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.
