SUMMARY:Family Forest Therapy Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a nature immersion experience for the whole family where everyday stresses are released. You can experience fun ways to be with nature with your children on a guided Forest Therapy/Shinrin Yoku Walk led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide. \nForest Therapy is a chance to be with nature\, perhaps in a different way then you are used to. Extensive scientific research has found Forest Therapy Walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, lowering blood pressure\, improving creativity and focus\, and much more. The guide will offer you and your children invitations to help you to be more aware of your senses to slow down and connect with the wonders of nature. There is no right or wrong way to participate in the invitations through this playful and interactive experience. \nAs you enjoy time with your family and others in the forest\, you will have a chance to share with others what you are noticing in any way you would like to (words\, movement\, gestures and even silence). During our times of sharing\, we will all practice listening with our full attention to whomever is sharing (no worries if young children need to move around\, as all are welcome). \nThe walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area\, snacks and hot cocoa for the children. We have a fireplace available if needed where we may start and end this walk. The rest of the walk we will wander away into the surrounding forest area. If it is very cold\, we can return to the fire for our sharing times. You are also free to return if you need to warm up. If you are an adult accompanying a child on a Forest Therapy Walk\, you are encouraged to allow yourself to also take part in the program\, find your inner child\, and trust that everyone will receive what they need in the experience. \nRegistration for this program has closed.\nMore details: This walk is for ages 5 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. You will be sent information the night prior to the walk on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place in rain or snow. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified morning of the walk.

SUMMARY:Identifying Winter Weeds
DESCRIPTION:Plant identification can be tricky in the winter! While many focus on the woody plants like trees and shrubs\, a shocking diversity of herbaceous plants can be confidently recognized throughout the colder seasons. Winter plant ID is one part knowledge\, one part forensics\, and one part imagination\, but with these skills\, you can impress your friends by identifying plants and plant remains even under deep snow. \nRegistration for this program has closed.\nMore details: This program is designed for adults. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. This program will follow Griffiths Trail\, a difficult trail which is generally flat but can be muddy or icy depending on the temperature and conditions. One resting bench is available along our ½ mile route.

SUMMARY:Campfire Pumpkins
DESCRIPTION:Cooking over a fire connects us with our ancestors in a very tasty way! While the pumpkins are roasting\, we’ll learn about the history of Marcellus and Baltimore Woods\, ponder how life was different back then\, and how we can still see evidence of their lifestyles on the landscape today. Then\, we’ll eat! \nRegistration for this program has closed.\nMore details: This program is designed for ages 5 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. This program will take place outside of our log cabin\, on flat grass with benches and picnic tables. Young children must be supervised by their parents around the fire at all times.

SUMMARY:Forest Therapy Walk

Forest Therapy\, also known as “forest bathing\,” stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. The 2.5 hour walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. \nRegister for the February Forest Therapy Walk!\nMore details: This walk is designed for ages 14 and up.
