Believe it or not\, every year thousands of monarch butterflies undertake an epic journey which spans much of the continent and involves many generations of butterflies. Tune in to this virtual program and follow five monarch generations as they take part in this magnificent journey! This program is designed for audiences of all ages and is free to watch. DESCRIPTION:Autumn leaves are celebrations of the change in the seasons\, in nature\, and in ourselves.  Come explore the colorful lives of trees as they prepare for the oncoming winter. Together we’ll take a walk\,  make observations\, and collect leaves. Later\, we’ll gather to make nature art and compare your collections with leaves from your own neighborhood. Connect scientifically and creatively to the fantastic displays of autumn at Baltimore Woods! \nThis program is intended for children ages 5-10. Parents are not required to register but they must accompany their children throughout the program. Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring a few leaves from your own neighborhood to use for our craft. Arrive ready for an hour-long\, moderate hike with rolling hills; the planned route is not suitable for strollers. This is a great time to compare the structure of trees in various habitats by sketching them. Grab your friends and join us for a scavenger hunt throughout the preserve! \nThe scavenger hunt is a self-guided program that takes place entirely outside on the trails\, so be sure to dress warmly and come ready to hike through rolling hills. Meet at the pavilion at 10:00 to pick up your scavenger hunt clues and expect to take at least 1.5-2 hours to solve all of the clues. \nThis program is intended for ages 5 and up. SUMMARY:Circle of Sustainability: Recycling and Composting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Informed recycling and composting are small yet important steps to bring wisdom\, health\, and sustainability to our communities. In this workshop we will investigate the entire cycle of sustainability: how it works\, what can (and what cannot) be recycled in Onondaga County\, how to reduce waste\, tips for composting\, and how to soften our environmental footprints. \nRegister for the Circle of Sustainability\nMore details:  Be sure to dress for the weather. Program will be held outdoors under the Pavilion (weather permitting) with seating opportunities. Simple compost starter supplies will be provided. This program is offered on Friday\, April 8th and again on Saturday\, April 30th. To sign up for the  Saturday\, April 30th program\, click here! Pre-registration is required and due to limited capacities associated with the pandemic\, walk-ins cannot be accommodated.
