There will be games\, activities\, info booths\, crafts\, and guided excursions – including a guided wildflower walk to see spring life return. Or\, go for a walk on your own on any of our 13 trails. It’s simply a beautiful time of year to experience and appreciate the gifts our planet provides. You’ll also have a chance to meet people from nature and conservation-based organizations around Central New York and learn how you can get involved in their important work to take care of our planet.\n\n\n\nClick to register for the Earth Day Celebration!\n\n\n\nMore Details: The Earth Day Celebration is free for everyone\, although space is limited. Pre-registration is required. This event is planned to be held outdoors near the Interpretive Center. This area includes sidewalks and natural surfaces. Guided walks will include wheel-chair accessible options on packed\, crushed stone.

SUMMARY:Earth Day Stewardship Project 2025
DESCRIPTION:Be a part of the annual Baltimore Woods restoration project to celebrate Earth Day! Join the Baltimore Woods Nature Center Stewardship Team to plant 350 native warm season grass plugs in a field on our newest 90 acres. These grasses will help increase the native cover of the field that we seeded in 2023\, and establish some larger plants that can give rise to generations of future plants. They will also create some additional structure in a largely flat field.\n\nSign up to be a part of the Earth Day Stewardship Project!\n\n\nMore details: This event has projects for all ages! Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.  Be sure to bring enough water\, closed toed shoes\, and tick deterrent of your choice. Dress accordingly. SUMMARY:Derby Hill Field Trip and Stewardship Project (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this program is closed.\n\nIn a single day\, hundreds and sometimes thousands of raptors and other birds may pass Derby Hill Bird Observatory on their way north along the shore of Lake Ontario. Join Naturalist and former Derby Hill Hawk Counter Anna Stunkel at Derby Hill to learn about these birds’ journeys\, get an insider’s perspective on how and why this research is conducted\, and learn some observation tips for watching raptors on the move. For the second part of the trip\, we will look for birds among the hedgerows and do some optional trail work to help maintain the habitat and trail accessibility here.\n\nPlease meet the group at 10 am at Derby Hill Bird Observatory. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them; a few extras will be provided in addition to spotting scopes.\n\nMore details: This program is designed for adults. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. We will plan to go for a walk on moderate terrain around the hedgerows for the second part of the program. If parking at the base of the hill is required due to mud\, the hike to the top is more difficult but car rides to the top in the Baltimore Woods vehicle can be accommodated.

DESCRIPTION:At our Saturday Stewardship Work Day in November\, we will be focusing on invasive species management. Fall is the perfect time to work on invasive species management. Nonnative shrubs can be identified year round and control in fall and winter is just as effective as in spring. Today\, we will be working in a patch of nonnative shrubs that we have worked to control on and off over the past few years. This project will clean up new plants that have come in since last year and expand the area where we have removed these plants as well as seeding native species to make the work more long lasting.
