SUMMARY:Star Party: Leonid Meteor Shower (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Tickets for this event are sold out.\nThe famous Leonid Meteor Shower peaks in mid-November every year as Earth passes through the debris left over from the Tempel-Tuttle Comet that circles the sun once every 33 years. Humans have used stars to mark the passage of time\, tell stories\, build mythologies\, and navigate across vast dark oceans. With powerful telescopes and a wealth of knowledge\, Bob Piekiel is your tour guide to the stars and planets\, revealing the secrets of the far away\, inspiring us to think about how special our little green and blue ball in space is. \nRegistration for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, November 12. \nMore details: This program is offered for free thanks to our Star Party Program Sponsor\, Marcellus Smiles. This program is designed for ages 8 and up. Space is limited and online pre-registration is required. The backup date will be November 18.

Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. The 2.5 hour walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. \nRegistration for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, October 30. \nMore details: This walk is designed for ages 14 and up. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. You will be notified ahead of the program on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place if it rains. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified by email the morning of the walk.

SUMMARY:November Stewardship Work Day (Saturday): Invasive Species Management
DESCRIPTION:At our Saturday Stewardship Work Day in November\, we will be focusing on invasive species management. Fall is the perfect time to work on invasive species management. Nonnative shrubs can be identified year round and control in fall and winter is just as effective as in spring. Today\, we will be working in a patch of nonnative shrubs that we have worked to control on and off over the past few years. This project will clean up new plants that have come in since last year and expand the area where we have removed these plants as well as seeding native species to make the work more long lasting. We will discuss invasive plant identification\, multi year planning of invasive control projects\, and how to implement them. \nClick to sign up and volunteer on this Saturday work day!\nMore details: Participants should wear long pants\, close-toed shoes\, work gloves\, bring an appropriate amount of water\, and be prepared to work. Work days can be somewhat strenuous at times. Heavy rain will postpone the work day. These volunteer projects are for ages 14 and up. Participants 14-18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should plan to meet the Land Steward in the main parking lot at the start of the work day.

SUMMARY:Family Forest Therapy Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a nature immersion experience for the whole family where everyday stresses are released. You can experience fun ways to be with nature with your children on a guided Forest Therapy/Shinrin Yoku Walk led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide. \nForest Therapy is a chance to be with nature\, perhaps in a different way then you are used to. Extensive scientific research has found Forest Therapy Walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, lowering blood pressure\, improving creativity and focus\, and much more. The guide will offer you and your children invitations to help you to be more aware of your senses to slow down and connect with the wonders of nature. There is no right or wrong way to participate in the invitations through this playful and interactive experience. \nAs you enjoy time with your family and others in the forest\, you will have a chance to share with others what you are noticing in any way you would like to (words\, movement\, gestures and even silence). During our times of sharing\, we will all practice listening with our full attention to whomever is sharing (no worries if young children need to move around\, as all are welcome). \nThe walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area\, snacks and hot cocoa for the children. We have a fireplace available if needed where we may start and end this walk. The rest of the walk we will wander away into the surrounding forest area. If it is very cold\, we can return to the fire for our sharing times. You are also free to return if you need to warm up. If you are an adult accompanying a child on a Forest Therapy Walk\, you are encouraged to allow yourself to also take part in the program\, find your inner child\, and trust that everyone will receive what they need in the experience. \nRegistration for this program has closed.\nMore details: This walk is for ages 5 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. You will be sent information the night prior to the walk on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place in rain or snow. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified morning of the walk.

If you have any technical difficulties\, just contact us at connect@baltimorewoods.org and we’ll help you! \nWe are pleased to continue to offer virtual program experiences for our community to have engaging experiences with nature and stay connected with the Baltimore Woods preserve and staff no matter where you are! These programs take our education team significant time and effort to produce and if you can support us with a donation\, it is greatly appreciated. Our typical in-person programs run at $9 per person\, and if you are able\, we suggest a donation of $10 per household for this virtual program experience. In light of these challenging times\, we understand that not everyone will be able to make a contribution\, and that others may be able to help support our environmental education programming with a larger donation – no gift is too small\, and we thank you for your support! \nVisit our website where you’ll find more videos \, activities\, and interactive content on our Nature in Your Hands at Home page.
