DESCRIPTION:Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for adults\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or back in the program room. During winter or inclement weather\, sketching will take place in the Interpretive Center. \nAll sketching materials are provided\, including pencils\, colored pencils\, pens\, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required. \nIn this session\, we will sketch mammals including squirrels visiting our feeders through the window. We will also use taxidermy mounts and photos as references to learn about mammal anatomy\, fur texture\, and tips for drawing mammals in motion. Before sketching\, we will go for a brief walk for inspiration. We will walk on relatively flat trails near the building. \n\n\nRegistration for Nature Sketching: Mammals is now closed\n\n\nMore Details: This program is designed for ages 14 and up. Bring your family on an adventure to experience Baltimore Woods as the sun sets and night time settles in. We will go on a short hike leading to our campfire to share traditional and modern stories\, songs\, and of course s’mores!\n\n\nRegistration for Family Field Night: Campfire Tales is now closed\n\n\nMore Details: Registration is per family and designed for children ages 8+.\nThis program is planned to follow parts of the Valley Trail and Boundary Trail. These difficult trails have narrow and steep sections with roots and loose soil. The surfaces may be snow-covered\, icy\, or muddy this time of year. Resting benches are available. Our total route will be about 1 mile.\n

Forest Therapy\, also known as “forest bathing\,” stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. The 2 hour walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. \nRegistration for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, March 12. \nMore details: This walk is designed for adults.
