SUMMARY:Family Forest Therapy Walk (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this program is closed.\nForest Therapy/Shinrin Yoku is a chance to be with nature\, perhaps in a different way then you are used to. This is not a hike – instead\, we will saunter and\, at times\, sit during the walk. June Leo-Randazzo is a ANFT Certified Forest Therapy Guide who will offer you and your children invitations which help you to be more aware of your senses (sight\, smell\, sound\, touch\, imagination\, etc) to slow down and connect with the wonders of nature. There is no right or wrong way to participate in the invitations. We will simply experience the treasures that can be found in nature through this playful\, interactive\, and mindful experience. \nAdults\, you may find your inner child while you enjoy time with your family and others in the forest. You will even have a chance to share with others what you are noticing in any way that you would like to (words\, movement\, gestures\, and even silence). During our times of sharing\, we will all practice listening with our full attention to whomever is sharing (no worries if young children need to move around\, as all are welcome). The walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area\, snacks\, and juice for the children ending this 2-hour walk. \nRegistrations for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, June 25. \nMore details: This walk is for ages 5 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. You will be sent information the night prior to the walk on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place in rain. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified morning of the walk.

SUMMARY:Forest Therapy Walk (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this program is closed.\nCultures all around the world celebrate the Summer Solstice by reconnecting with nature. This program will consist of a Forest Therapy Walk combined with Summer Solstice rituals. The Summer Solstice reminds us to turn inward and find the nourishment to grow. It is a time to reflect on personal growth and get connected to playfulness\, creativity\, and expanding consciousness into the realm of possibility. \nThe practice of Forest Therapy is grounded in the belief that the earth has wisdom to share with humans when we slow down long enough to pay attention. This practice originated from the Japanese practice called Shinrin Yoku which translates as “Forest Bathing” – it is simply a metaphor for taking in\, or “bathing” in the essential oils the trees/plants naturally emit (also known as phytoncides). The Summer Solstice is an energetically charged day and an important one to set intentions. We will do so through invitations partnering with the nature elements and energies of the Summer Solstice. \nForest Therapy is a practice where you are invited to connect with your body and nature in the present moment. By awakening your senses and slowing down\, you can develop a greater connection and relationship with the forest\, yourself\, and others. This is a very relaxed and mindful way of being in the forest. Forest Therapy Guide June Leo-Randazzo will be offering “invitations” during the program. Participants will have opportunities throughout the walk to gather every so often to share and listen to each other. The walk ends with a tea ceremony serving a special tea from Asia that symbolizes transformation and has been used by traditional ancient communities for centuries. \nThe walk will end with a guided intention setting tea ritual followed by snacks. This is not a hike\, but rather a slow walk to no walk at times. ANFT guides often share that the “The forest is the therapist\, and the guide opens the doors to the senses.” During your experience\, the forest will offer you whatever it is you need. \nRegistration for this program closes at 3pm on Wednesday\, June 18. \nMore details: This walk is designed for adults. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. You will be notified ahead of the program on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place if it rains or snows. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified by email the morning of the walk. Dress for the weather\, this program will be entirely outdoors.

SUMMARY:Nourishing Ourselves Through Nature: Orchids\, Butterflies and Bog Walking in an Outdoor Playground
DESCRIPTION:Baltimore Woods Nature Center is excited to Partner with Matt Young’s Mindful Nature Expeditions to offer a series of 6 outdoor excursions between February and July of 2024. This naturalist wellness class will combine observing nature with mindfulness\, creating a practice that incorporates a heightened sense of awareness\, both in ourselves and the environment around us. Labeling or identifying species is not the only focus\, but instead\, the intention is also to slow down and notice how to use nature\, including birds\, butterflies\, trees\, flowers\, and more as our guide. This style of observation invites reciprocity\, sit-spots and self-reflection\, journaling and exploration\, and an acknowledgment of our physical and emotional responses while we engage with the outdoors. \nThis is the fifth of 6 sessions which will be focused on “Orchids\, butterflies and bog walking in an outdoor playground.” at Jam Pond. \nThis session is sold out! Click here for more Nourishing Ourselves Through Nature sessions!\nMore Details: This program is designed for ages 18 and up. Space is limited\, online registration is required. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. The 2.5 hour walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. \nRegistration for this program is closed.\nMore details: This walk is designed for ages 14 and up. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. You will be notified ahead of the program on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place if it rains. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified by email the morning of the walk.

SUMMARY:Family Forest Therapy Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a nature immersion experience for the whole family where everyday stresses are released. You can experience fun ways to be with nature with your children in this spring season on a guided Forest Therapy/Shinrin Yoku Walk led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide. \nForest Therapy is a chance to be with nature\, perhaps in a different way then you are used to. Extensive scientific research has found Forest Therapy Walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, lowering blood pressure\, improving creativity and focus\, and much more. The guide will offer you and your children invitations to help you to be more aware of your senses to slow down and connect with the wonders of nature. There is no right or wrong way to participate in the invitations through this playful and interactive experience. \nAs you enjoy time with your family and others in the forest\, you will have a chance to share with others what you are noticing in any way you would like to (words\, movement\, gestures and even silence). During our times of sharing\, we will all practice listening with our full attention to whomever is sharing (no worries if young children need to move around\, as all are welcome). \nThe walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. If you are an adult accompanying a child on a Forest Therapy Walk\, you are encouraged to allow yourself to also take part in the program\, find your inner child\, and trust that everyone will receive what they need in the experience. \nRegistration for this program is closed.\nMore details: This walk is for ages 5 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. You will be sent information the night prior to the walk on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will take place in rain. These programs take our education team significant time and effort to produce and if you can support us with a donation\, it is greatly appreciated. Our typical in-person programs run at $9 per person\, and if you are able\, we suggest a donation of $10 per household for this virtual program experience. In light of these challenging times\, we understand that not everyone will be able to make a contribution\, and that others may be able to help support our environmental education programming with a larger donation – no gift is too small\, and we thank you for your support! \nIf you’re looking for more virtual content like this\, please check out Nature in Your Hands…at Home on our website where you’ll find new content added each week\, including nature videos\, activities\, games\, and stories for nature enthusiasts of all ages. Thank you for allowing us to be your resource for environmental education and stewardship in Central New York.

SUMMARY:Trail School: June Explorations
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by one of the great naturalists of the 19th century\, Enos Mills\, each excursion will take us on an adventure through Baltimore Woods as we explore away from the main trails. Our 182-acre “classroom” is rich with diverse habitats\, including streams\, forests\, wetlands\, beaver ponds\, and open meadows. This four-week series runs weekly on Thursday afternoons. $40 members; $60 public. Pre-registration is required and the price includes all four weeks. Weekly themes for June are listed below\, so get ready to hit the trails! \nExploring Hidden Meadow\nJune 3 from 1-4pm \nYou never know what you’ll find in the meadow. The tall grasses\, wildflowers\, and shrubs hide little birds and attract all kinds of pollinators. What amazing things will we discover? \nHarrison’s Hideaway\nJune 10 from 1-4pm \nHave you ever found clay in a stream? Let’s go find some on our preserve! This week we’re digging for clay and exploring all the wonderful creations that can be made with this natural gift. \nHike to Boulder Brook\nJune 17 from 1-4pm \nOne of the most beloved places on the preserve\, the rocks that align the stream of Boulder Brook are a wonder to look at. Not only that\, but there’s plenty of cracks and crevices to find aquatic creatures. Let’s go explore here! \nMiami Beach\nJune 24 from 1-4pm \nIt’s summer-let’s go to the beach! This week we’ll make our way to Miami Beach for a fun day in the sun. As we explore we’ll learn about where all that sand came from and see who can climb the sand hill the fastest! \nRegister for Trail School: June Explorations!\nMore details: This program is planned to be entirely outdoors\, so please dress for the weather. Lessons are suited for ages 5-13. Students must pre-register for the entire series. Adults are encouraged\, but not required to join the group\, and must stay on-site during the program.
