We will be looking for\, identifying\, and counting the birds that visit our feeders from the warmth of our indoor program room as part of the Lab of Ornithology’s Project: Feederwatch citizen science initiative. Join a naturalist and other bird-lovers for a casual afternoon of learning and connecting! Binoculars and field guides will be provided. \nThis program will occur every Wednesday from January 14 – April 8. Pre-registration is not required.  \nMore Details: This program will be held inside the program room in the Interpretive Center. There are accessible and van accessible parking spaces with a short paved path from the parking lot to the building. In this series for older teens and adults\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or back in the program room. During winter or inclement weather\, sketching will take place in the Interpretive Center. All sketching materials are provided\, including pencils\, colored pencils\, pens\, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required. In our first session\, we will collect natural curiosities like pinecones\, sticks\, and winter weeds and bring them back to sketch in the Interpretive Center.\n\nRegistration for Nature Sketching: Forest Curiosities is now closed\n\nMore Details: The program is designed for ages 14+ Teens under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. With powerful telescopes and a wealth of knowledge\, Bob Piekiel is your tour guide to the stars and planets\, revealing the secrets of the far away\, inspiring us to think about how special our little green and blue ball in space is. Let’s take a look at the winter skies surrounding the constellation Orion! We might get a peek at Saturn early in the evening\, plus Jupiter and Uranus. This is the day after the Quadrantid meteor shower\, so we may be treated to a small show of shooting stars. \nClick to register for this Star Party!\nMore details: This program is designed for ages 8 and up.
