SUMMARY:Forest Therapy Walk
DESCRIPTION:Experience nature in a unique way on a guided Forest Therapy Walk throughout Baltimore Woods! Forest Therapy\, also known as “forest bathing\,” stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest. \nExtensive scientific research has found forest therapy walks to have numerous physical health benefits including activation of the ‘rest and restore’ parasympathetic nervous system\, decreases to anxiety and depression\, improving creativity\, and much more. Your stress will peel away as your nervous system relaxes and you simply experience the medicine of the forest. \nDuring this slow\, mindful\, and quiet walk\, June will provide a series of relaxing invitations to engage all your senses\, release your mind chatter\, and deepen connections to nature\, allowing you to connect with yourself and others through nature in new ways. You will have opportunities throughout for both individual reflection and to come together as a group to listen and share what we are noticing. The 2.5 hour walk ends with a tea ceremony with wildcrafted tea foraged from the area and snacks. \nRegistration for this program has closed.\nMore details: This walk is designed for ages 14 and up. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. You will be notified ahead of the program on where to park and meet on the day of the walk. The walk will still take place if it rains. In case cancellation is necessary due to dangerous conditions\, you will be notified by email the morning of the walk.

Work will include cutting trail tread\, building stairs\, and creating a stable trail surface. Work can be physically challenging\, and be sure to bring enough water\, closed toed shoes\, and tick deterrent of your choice. \nClick to register and volunteer on this Saturday work day!\nMore details: Participants should wear long pants\, close-toed shoes\, work gloves\, bring an appropriate amount of water\, and be prepared to work. Work days can be somewhat strenuous at times. Heavy rain will postpone the work day. These volunteer projects are for ages 14 and up. Participants 14-18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should plan to meet the Land Steward in the main parking lot at the start of the work day.

Would you like to leave campgrounds behind\, and camp out in the wilderness – but are unsure if you have what it takes? \nThere are over 600\,000 acres in New York State and over 350 million acres in the U.S. where you can camp in the wilderness for free and you don’t need to be a survival expert or have lots of expensive gear to start enjoying camping in the wild. Join wilderness skills instructor\, Jeff Devine\, on August 6th to learn the ins and outs of wild camping. That fence protects a rare habitat in New York called a Rich Sloping Fen. Still have questions? Join us to learn about this amazing habitat and the volunteer driven effort to protect it. Hear from Don Faber-Langendoen\, an ecologist with NatureServe\, Randy Nonenmacher\, a volunteer The Woods\, and Gregory McGee\, a professor at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
