In this month’s session for kids\, we will explore the Faust Garden and draw many kinds of spring plants like trilliums\, Bloodroot\, and Trout Lilies. DESCRIPTION:Derby Hill Bird Observatory is a fascinating spot to visit and watch migrating raptors\, songbirds\, waterfowl\, and other birds. In some cases\, these birds pass the lookouts by the thousands! Join Naturalist and former Derby Hill Hawk Counter Anna Stunkel at Derby Hill to learn about these birds’ journeys\, get an insider’s perspective on how and why this research is conducted\, and learn some observation tips for watching raptors on the move. We may also spend time looking for birds in the hedgerows and on the lake.\n\n\nClick to register for the Derby Hill Field Trip\n\n\nMore Details: Please meet the group at 10 am at Derby Hill Bird Observatory. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them; a few extras will be provided in addition to spotting scopes.We may plan to go for a walk on moderate terrain around the hedgerows for the second part of the program. If parking at the base of the hill is required due to mud\, the hike to the top is more difficult but car rides to the top in the Baltimore Woods vehicle can be accommodated. SUMMARY:Nature Sketching: Wildflowers and Ferns
DESCRIPTION:Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for adults\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. Each session includes an exploration around the preserve and sketching along the trails or back in the program room. During winter or inclement weather\, sketching will take place in the Interpretive Center. All sketching materials are provided\, including pencils\, colored pencils\, pens\, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required. In this session\, we will sketch wildflowers and ferns. DESCRIPTION:Experience nature in a unique way on a guided Forest Bathing Walk throughout Baltimore Woods! Forest Bathing stems from a Japanese practice known as Shinrin Yoku. Led by June Leo-Randazzo\, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide\, this program invites participants to immerse themselves in nature and open their senses to the surroundings of the forest.\n\n\nClick to register for the Forest Bathing Walk!\n\n\nMore Details: This walk is designed for adults.
