SUMMARY:Science Adventures in Nature: May Series
DESCRIPTION:The May Science Adventures in Nature program is sold out. Check out the June offering where there are limited spaces still available. \nThis four-week series offers hands-on experiences in nature to supplement your science curriculum. Every Tuesday\, we’ll meet up for a three hour program packed with experiments\, activities\, and outdoor exploration. Rain\, snow\, or sunshine – we will happily go outside! The cost is $40 for members; $60 for the public. Pre-registration is required and all four sessions are included in this price. Themes for each week are listed below. \nLife Cycles\nMay 4 from 1-4pm \nFrom toads to trees everything has a life cycle and for many spring is the perfect time to start theirs. This week we will explore the life cycles of plants and animals all over the preserve through activities and games. \nWacky and Wild \nMay 11 from 1-4pm \nStrange things are popping up all over Baltimore Woods! Through activities and exploration we will be investigating the weird and wild plants and animals that live here on the preserve. \nBirds of a Feather\nMay 18 from 1-4pm \nTweet tweet! There are so many types of birds that look and sound different from one another. This week we will search the preserve for birds and do activities to learn about their life cycles and adaptations. \nPollination Station\nMay 25 from 1-4pm \nWhat’s the buzz? With flowers blooming all around us\, pollinators are as busy as can be! Let’s find out how and why flowers need to be pollinated through activities and exploration. \nMore details: This program is planned to be entirely outdoors\, so please dress for the weather. Lessons are suited for ages 5-13. Students must pre-register for the entire series. Adults are encouraged\, but not required to join the group\, and must stay on-site during the program. Bring a water bottle and a small snack. At Baltimore Woods Nature Center\, the health and safety of our staff and visitors is of utmost importance. All in-person programming will follow best practices for keeping our participants safe\, including health screenings\, physical distancing and wearing facial coverings.

SUMMARY:Trail School: April Explorations
DESCRIPTION:This program is sold out. Watch for our May-June series which will open for registration soon!\nInspired by one of the great naturalists of the 19th century\, Enos Mills\, each excursion will take us on an adventure as we explore away from the main trails. Our 182-acre “classroom” is rich with diverse habitats\, including streams\, forests\, wetlands\, beaver ponds\, and open meadows. This four-week series for kids ages 5-13 runs weekly on Thursday afternoons. $40 members; $60 public. Pre-registration is required and the price includes all four weeks. Themes for each week are listed below\, so get ready for some April adventure! \nSpring in the Valley\nApril 8\, 2021 from 1-4pm\nFlowers blooming\, birds singing\, peepers peeping. This week we will use our senses to search high and low for the sights\, sounds\, and smells of spring! \nGriffiths Flats\nApril 15\, 2021 from 1-4pm\nWhat has mud and comes back to life in the spring? The wetlands at Baltimore Woods! Let’s explore the Griffiths trail in search of creatures big and small. \nSearching Seeps\nApril 22\, 2021 from 1-4pm\nAs the weather warms\, amphibians and reptiles emerge from their winter homes. This week we’ll visit seeps and small streams in search of frogs\, salamanders\, and turtles! \nHike to Boulder Brook\nApril 29\, 2021 from 1-4pm\nThe water of Baltimore Woods is flowing\, thawing\, and ready to be explored! This week we will look into the water\, turn over stones\, and examine the banks as we look for the awakening aquatic plants and animals. \nMore details: This program is planned to be entirely outdoors\, so please dress for the weather.
