SUMMARY:Nature Art for Kids: Wildflowers! (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:Experience the joy of spring wildflowers and ferns through art! In this month’s session for kids\, we will explore the Faust Garden and draw many kinds of spring plants like trilliums\, Bloodroot\, and Trout Lilies. All art materials will be provided\, and you are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer.\n\n\nRegistration for Nature Art for Kids: Wildflowers is now closed\n\n\nMore Details: We will go for a brief adventure to the Faust Garden for our sketching. This trail is relatively flat and is one of our most accessible trails. If it is raining\, we may do some sketching using waterproof paper or sketch from photographs inside the Interpretive Center. Please bring a small portable camp chair if you have one. This program is designed for ages 5-13. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required.

DESCRIPTION:Inspired by one of the great naturalists of the 19th century\, Enos Mills\, each excursion will take us on an adventure through Baltimore Woods as we explore away from the main trails. Our 182-acre “classroom” is rich with diverse habitats\, including streams\, forests\, wetlands\, beaver ponds\, and open meadows. This four-week series runs weekly on Thursday afternoons. $40 members; $60 public. Pre-registration is required and the price includes all four weeks. Weekly themes for June are listed below\, so get ready to hit the trails! \nExploring Hidden Meadow\nJune 3 from 1-4pm \nYou never know what you’ll find in the meadow. The tall grasses\, wildflowers\, and shrubs hide little birds and attract all kinds of pollinators. What amazing things will we discover? \nHarrison’s Hideaway\nJune 10 from 1-4pm \nHave you ever found clay in a stream? Let’s go find some on our preserve! This week we’re digging for clay and exploring all the wonderful creations that can be made with this natural gift. \nHike to Boulder Brook\nJune 17 from 1-4pm \nOne of the most beloved places on the preserve\, the rocks that align the stream of Boulder Brook are a wonder to look at. Not only that\, but there’s plenty of cracks and crevices to find aquatic creatures. Let’s go explore here! \nMiami Beach\nJune 24 from 1-4pm \nIt’s summer-let’s go to the beach! This week we’ll make our way to Miami Beach for a fun day in the sun. Let’s learn about the little things in nature that are often overlooked. We’ll take a closer look at nature by investigating moss\, rolling logs\, and following ants. \nMammals\nJune 8 from 1-4pm \nWhat do voles\, moles\, foxes\, and other furry animals have in common? They are all mammals! This week we will explore the lives of our furry friends through activities and games. \nNature’s Builders\nJune 15 from 1-4pm \nCalling all budding builders! Today we will be busy as beavers\, birds\, and foxes with activities\, crafts\, and games to help us create and build just like our animal friends. We will let the colors\, smells\, cool sunny days\, and\nscurrying animals be our inspiration as we watch the forest change with each falling leaf. \nMore details: Lessons are suited for ages 6-12. Students must pre-register for the entire series. Children ages 6-9 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents of children ages 10-12 must stay on-site\, or can join in the fun! Please call ahead if you are planning to bring multiple children (including children who are not participating in the program). Bring a water bottle and a small snack\, and dress for the weather. \nAt Baltimore Woods Nature Center\, the health and safety of our staff and visitors is of utmost importance. All in-person programming will follow best practices for keeping our participants safe\, including physical distancing and wearing facial coverings.
