SUMMARY:Nature Sketching: Mammals
DESCRIPTION:Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for older children and adults\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. All sketching materials are provided\, and you are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required.\n\n\nAs the seasons are changing\, many mammals are active and preparing for winter. This is a great time to practice sketching the deer\, squirrels\, rabbits\, and other mammals who call Baltimore Woods home. In this program\, we will learn about mammal anatomy and movement through sketching taxidermy mounts and reference photos in the Interpretive Center.\n\n\n\n\nClick to register for Nature Sketching: Mammals!\n\n\n\nMore Details: If the weather is particularly nice and there is group interest\, we may venture onto nearby trails such as the Harrison Loop and Faust Garden Trail for some field sketching. These trails are relatively flat and are some of our most accessible trails. This program is designed for adults and older children (10+). Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required.

SUMMARY:Nature Sketching: Winter Weeds and Tree Treasures
DESCRIPTION:Sketching offers a fascinating window into nature’s beauty and diversity. In this series for older children and adults\, we will sharpen our observation skills with fun exercises to learn about proportions\, shading\, texture\, and colors. All sketching materials are provided\, and you are welcome to bring your own supplies if you prefer. We encourage attending multiple monthly sessions to build your skills\, but this is not required.\n\nCentral New York becomes a world of grays and browns during late fall and winter\, but we can still appreciate the beauty of plants long after their greenery has faded. Join us for a walk around the Fox’s Den and Meadow Trail to find and identify winter weeds\, pinecones\, branches\, and other treasures. We will learn about how these plants provide food and shelter for wildlife. Then\, we’ll bring some clippings back to the nature center where we can sketch them and study them further.\n\n\nClick to register for Nature Sketching: Winter Weeds and Tree Treasures!\n\n\nMore Details: This program will partially take place on the Meadow Trail\, which is a relatively flat loop of about a quarter mile. We will also do some exploring in the Fox’s Den nature play area\, which is also fairly flat with some exposed roots. This program is designed for adults and older children (10+). Space is limited.
